My sister has been my inspiration into starting my blog. She has actually been my inspiration for a couple of things recently. Blogging and sharing my creativeness through an app called Instagram and the photo a day challenge.
I find blogging a good way to release any stresses and express my thoughts a feelings, even if only a few people read it. Although I do wish I had more followers, I just don't know how to get more people to read my blog!
I'm still learning how to set-up the pages appropriately and I find myself asking my tech savvy sister to help me when I don't know the answer. I apologise if my blog seems a bit of a mess at times!!
I'm not the best with technology. Recently my phone was low on space so I went into settings and deleted a few things that I didn't think were important, turns out I deleted my entire contacts list! I'm still trying to get everyones numbers!
Technology is forever changing and we will be forever trying to keep up. By the time I get my blog sorted out and I actually know what I'm doing there will possibly be a new form of communication.

Playing the waiting game
Playing the waiting game to find out where we will move to next is not my idea of fun. Will we be in Sydney for another year? Will we be moving to another state? Will we be going back to South Australia?
Around the first week of July most defence members find out where they will be posted next year. It can be a very exciting and/or frustrating time. It is something we must face at least every 2 years, the possibility of packing up our life again and moving to a new town, meeting new people and making new friends.
Thus far my husbands position is stable so it looks like we don't have to move at the end of this year, which I'm very grateful for. Although moving so often allows you to get rid of a heap of junk and throw out a lot of things you don't need it is very stressful.
It has taken me a long time to get used to life in Sydney. I do enjoy it but it's completely different to Adelaide. For some reason it seems as though everyone in Sydney is in a hurry to do something...I feel as though they never sleep and there is never any time to do "nothing"......"something" is always happening.
I have mixed emotions about staying in Sydney another year. Sometimes I think it may just send me crazy, other times I feel like I need to embrace the city more as there's still so much for me to see and do.

June Long Weekend
So I was fortunate enough to work this long weekend....YAY (not).
I found it rather frustrating that I had to work all 3 days whilst my husband had all 3 days off!! All I wanted to do was spend some time with him. Life here in Sydney always seems so busy and I find little time to spend relaxing with my other half.
I was lucky enough that on Monday I only had to work 3 hours.
My husband had been speaking of going to a brewery in Manly for a few months now and we thought Monday for lunch would be a great idea....however, the weather was horrible!!!!!!!! But, we decided to go anyway. So in the car we got to drive an hour over to the other side of town. As we were driving down the M5 I was thinking "OMG, we are totally crazy". It was absolutely pouring and the traffic was chaotic (more so than usual).
We drove around Manly and spotted the brewery, the next thing we needed was a car park. As we drove around I saw a quaint little sign that read "Adriano Zumbo." YES! Right next to the brewery! (I have had a slight obsession with Adrianos pastries since MasterChef 2010)

Lucky I had decided to 'dress for the snow' because it was still pouring with rain and we didn't have an umbrella! We sploshed our way to the 4 Pines Brewery, arrived looking like drowned rats.
It was quite cosy and warm BUT busy. We found a seat, outside. Thankfully it was just out of the rain and the bar staff turned on the outside heaters for us.
We orded lunch and my husband ordered his 'tasting rack' of beer! We ate and drank as the rain fell, it was rather peaceful and lovely to finally spend some time relaxing together.

My 4 Pines Cider

After lunch we sploshed our way around the corner to Adriano Zumbos patisserie, only to find out it was closed. Sob.
Since I hadn't been drinking I had the task of driving home.....the LONG road home. I don't like driving in the city and I had to drive over the Sydney Harbour Bridge so it was a big deal! And to have a husband in the passenger seat who was half drunk didn't really give me the confidence I needed! Anyway, after a lot of stress we made it home safely. Dodging a few crazy vehicles on the way.
Even though it was only half a day, it was a great half a day and it's all the little things that make me happy!

Leaving Home (again)
A few tears well in my eyes as the plane takes off. Little TC didn't want to hug me goodbye. Mischievious SS started crying as we reversed out the driveway (although I do think it was more for Nanny as it was for me.) TC popped her head up and peered through the window giving a little wave.
I swear no matter how many times I go home it will never get easier leaving. Especially now that I have 2 gorgeous nieces who are growing ever so quickly!
I have spent five days with my family in Adelaide. A weekend is never long enough! I spent much needed time chatting, drinking tea, watching cartoons with my nieces, catching up for lunch and playing in the park. I didn't do anything super exciting but spending quality time with my girls is all I wanted to do.
I wish that I was closer. I wish I was there to help all the time.

Mothers Day
As an army wife you never know where you're going to be living. Every 2 years moving house, or moving state. You could move closer to family or further away. I always hope to get back to Adelaide.
Being away from family can be difficult at the best of times. It's a lot more difficult on special occasions such as birthdays, christmas and mothers day! This year I have made the trip back to Adelaide to spend some much needed time with my mother, sisters and nieces.
It's amazing to see how much my nieces have grown in 5 months. From taking a few steps to walking all around the house, from saying a few words and now stringing them into sentences. I can not believe how quickly they are growing from babies into little girls.
My sisters are my best friends and I miss spending time with them. We don't have to be doing anything in particular I simply enjoy their company.
Most would say their mothers are fantastic. My mother is absolutely amazing and as I have grown I have learnt how much she has done for us girls and I respect her greatly. When I was a teenager I was a total punk and I thought my mum was trying to ruin my life. Now I realise she was clearly trying to teach me the best of life and look out for me, which she has done a fantastic job doing!! Sorry mum....
I love my family dearly and wouldn't change it for anything. I just wish I could be closer to them.

ANZAC Day
So, it's been a while since my last blog. ANZAC day has come and gone.
When I was young I remember my father waking me up at some ghastly hour in the morning and taking me along to an ANZAC day dawn service (which I thought was super boring). After the service we would hang around with a group of my fathers friends drinking beers and telling stories about their time in the defence force. I really had no idea what ANZAC day was all about, all I knew is that my father celebrated it every year and it meant a lot to him.
Over the years I have learnt more about the history of ANZAC day and my ancestors involvement in the military. I have discovered I have a really strong military history in my family. ANZAC Day is now one of my favourite days of the year to comemmorate with friends.
This year I had the opportunity to go to the local army base dawn service with my husband. I'd have to say it was one of the best services I've been to. It was a beautiful, calm, CRISP morning. I was thinking about how freezing I was and how I wished I was inside....but then it hit me that the guys who have fought in wars would have been through a lot worse than being cold!
After the service we headed into the city where my husband participated in the march then we headed off to the pub for some drinks and to play two-up. This year was my first year watching the march and I must say it was very moving. It was amazing seeing the number of people and different sections that are involved in the military.
My husband had always been very enthusiastic about playing two-up on ANZAC day and I never really knew the correlation.......so after a little bit of research I discovered that two-up was played extensively by Australia's soldiers during WWI. Such games became a regular part of ANZAC day celebrations for returned soldiers and to mark a shared experience with diggers thoughout time.
If you have never been to a dawn service or commemorated ANZAC day I suggest do it once in your life to see what it's like. It truly is a memorable day.

What is an 'army' wife?
I got asked today "What is the difference between an army wife and a 'non' army wife?". I have only been married once so I can't compare to a 'non' army wife.
The main points that stand out in my mind are:
-You are likely to move every 2-3 years. You have to pack up your life into a billion boxes, leave your "new" friends and leave your "new" job in search for another.
- You learn to enjoy your own company. Sometimes army guys go away for days, weeks, sometimes months on end. After the first few days it's relaxing, by the end of the week you are starting to talk to yourself and well at the end of months apart you are going totally insane.
-Your husband has to keep things from you. Sometimes army wives aren't allowed to know where their husbands have gone. Sometimes there is minimal to no contact. Whilst they're away there's always the thought in the back of your mind that the next time the phone rings or someone knocks on the door you're going to find out your husband isn't coming home.
-You learn to adapt to change. Moving, new jobs, new friends, partners coming and going. You wouldn't cope if you didn't adapt quickly!
I yet have a LOT to experience and I will take it all in my stride. I am not saying army wives have it harder than others. I am not saying that we have it easier either. I'm allowing those who don't necessarily experience these things to have an insight into what it's like.

Growing Up
Family and friends have always been an important part of my life. Growing up in a small country town our closest neighbours were 5 ks away, we knew everyone and everyone knew us, going to the "city" was a exciting trip for the whole family, we went to playgroup, kindy, primary and then high-school with our friends.
I loved having a close knit family and friendship base.
It all started to change when I moved to the "city" to finish year 11 and 12 at boarding school. Leaving my family and friends behind was the hardest thing i've ever had to do, although now i'm glad it happened because I have grown a lot and I belive it has made me a stronger person. I made great friends at boarding school. It's sad to think most of those friendships are fading away.
Moving to the city to finish school was a big change. It was a big deal. I've now moved to Sydney to be with my husband who's currently in the Army.
My blog is about my life and my stories about being an army wife.
